Radiology is the use of radiant energy to view the inside of the body. Radiologists use many techniques, such as ultrasounds, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) to perform their tasks. These techniques are used to diagnosis or treat a disease. Radiology is a growing profession in the medical field. People interested in pursuing a career in radiology need at a minimum a certificate in an American Registry of Radiologic Technologists accredited program. Radiologists are imaging experts and have many opportunities in the field. A radiologist may specialize in branches such as oncology, cardiac, emergency and nuclear radiology. Radiologists with advanced training and education have opportunities to be instructors or radiologic directors.
