X-Ray Resources: A Kid’s Guide to the Skeletal System

The skeletal system is composed of both fused as well as individual bones that are supplemented and supported by one’s tendons, ligaments, cartilage and muscles. The whole skeletal system acts like something of a scaffold, which holds up one’s whole organs, protects organs like one’s brain, and anchors muscles. The largest bone in the whole skeletal system is actually the femur that is located in one’s thigh. On the flip side, the tiniest bone of the whole skeletal system can be found in the middle ear; it is the stapes bone. In adults, their skeleton accounts for about 30 to 40 percent of their entire body weight. Talk about a bag of bones!
